Manaus Free Zone. "Created to be a free trade zone to develop Western Amazonas, the Manaus Free Zone is a lively center of intense commercial and industrial activity. Brazilian companies producing electronics, watches, bicycles, computers, toys, jet skis, glasses and motorcycles that supply the local market are concentrated in the Free Zone. Enjoy shopping for high technology products at affordable prices.
Central de Artesanato Branco & Silva. Located about 15 minutes north of downtown Manaus, Central de Artesanato offers 23 handicrafts shops specializing in Amazon regional crafts produced by Amazon forest inhabitants and members of Indian tribes. You’ll find artisans producing and selling baskets, weavings, hammocks, ceramics, knick-knacks and ornaments using regional wood, seeds, vines, fibres, bark, and organic materials. The selection is amazing, and some of the crafts are of gallery quality. In addition to craft stores, the venue also houses restaurants and cafes with Amazon cuisine. Feira de Artesanato. The crafts market located on the Praça Tenreiro Aranha sells a wide variety of Indian crafts, including necklaces, bracelets, woodcarvings, baskets, and handbags. Open Monday through Saturday 8am to 6pm. Pieces made by Indians can also be found at the Indian Museum and in the Artindia store, which is maintained by FUNAI (National Foundation for Indians) - a government agency.
